At least 49 people have died and around 100 are missing after a boat carrying about 160 migrants capsized off the coast of Mauritania while en route to Spain’s Canary Islands. The overcrowded vessel, primarily with Gambian and Senegalese nationals, capsized after migrants spotted coastal lights, prompting an ongoing search for survivors amid rising dangers of such crossings.
