Man steering Norway ship that crashed into a garden was asleep, police say

The watch officer of the NCL Salten, a 135m container ship that ran aground in Byneset, Norway, admitted to falling asleep while on duty, leading to the vessel crashing into a resident’s garden. The Ukrainian officer has been charged with negligent navigation, and investigations are ongoing regarding compliance with working and rest hour regulations. Fortunately, no injuries occurred during the incident, which narrowly missed a nearby house, prompting the property owner to describe the surreal moment he saw the ship in his front garden.
