Bulgaria’s president, Iliana Iotova, has appointed Andrey Gurov, the deputy central bank governor, as interim prime minister to lead a caretaker government in preparation for snap elections. This follows the resignation of the previous cabinet amid protests over economic policies and corruption. No election date has been announced yet, but Iotova aims for it to occur by mid to late April. Bulgaria continues to experience significant political instability, having held seven elections in five years.
