A Bulgarian court has denied Lebanon’s extradition request for Igor Grechushkin, the Russian-Cypriot shipowner linked to the 2020 Beirut port explosion, which killed 218 people and left vast destruction. Grechushkin, detained since September, remains in custody until an appeal process concludes. Lebanese authorities claim the explosion stemmed from improperly stored ammonium nitrate, yet no senior officials have faced accountability, with investigations stalled. Despite ongoing efforts, including recent actions by Judge Tarek Bitar, families of the victims accuse political leaders of obstructing justice.
