A delegation from Broome, comprising councillors Sean Cooper, Melanie Virgo, and Philip Matsumoto, will visit their sister city Taiji, Japan, in April alongside St Mary’s College students for a cultural exchange. This visit, aligned with the council’s sister city policy, occurs every two years and aims to strengthen historical ties and explore shared interests in tourism and pearling. The estimated trip cost is within the $25,000 budget, despite previous expenditures. Although there is some controversy surrounding Taiji’s dolphin practices, community support for the sister city relationship remains strong.
