British author Samantha Harvey has won the 2024 Booker Prize with her novel Orbital, set in space and following a team of astronauts in the International Space Station. The book, which contemplates the world from a unique perspective, has become the biggest-selling book on the shortlist in the UK, outselling past winners. Harvey, the first woman to win the award since 2019, was praised for the “beauty and ambition” of her writing, with judges describing Orbital as a “book about a wounded world”.
