Brit backpacker faces 20 years in jail for ‘killing man in e-scooter crash’

Alicia Kemp, a 24-year-old British backpacker, faces up to 20 years in prison after being charged with killing pedestrian Thanh Phan, 51, in an e-scooter crash in Perth. Kemp reportedly consumed alcohol for six hours before the incident, where she collided with Mr. Phan while traveling at 25kph, resulting in his death from brain injuries and injuries to her passenger. Denied bail due to the risk of fleeing, Kemp’s court appearance is scheduled for July 15, with calls from Mr. Phan’s family for a review of e-scooter regulations.
