In summary: Brisbane Lion Noah Answerth imitated Melbourne player Harrison Petty, referencing an incident that caused Petty to cry during a match in 2022.Petty was taunted during a match in 2022 by then Lions captain Dayne Zorko, allegedly about a family member. What comes next?: Zorko mentioned to ABC Sport that he would have a conversation with his teammate, expressing that the behavior exhibited on Thursday night was not in line with the Lions’ values.

Former Brisbane Lions captain Dayne Zorko has stated that an action by his teammate Noah Answerth was “not the way we want to win”.

Answerth mimicked wiping his eyes, implying crying, towards Melbourne Demons player Harrison Petty during the final quarter of Brisbane’s victory over Melbourne on Thursday night.

It was reminiscent of a troubling incident from 2022, where Petty was seen crying after a comment from Zorko.

The remark was reportedly related to a family member of Petty, causing the defender distress at the time.

Zorko admitted his behavior was inappropriate back then and mentioned to ABC Sport on Thursday that Answerth’s crying gesture was unnecessary.

“I will definitely address it with him, that is not how we want to achieve victory,” he expressed.

“Things happen in the heat of the moment. I am certain he would have rectified it after the game.”

Both Lions coach Chris Fagan and Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin claimed they were unaware of the incident when questioned during their post-match interviews.

Former Hawthorn legend turned broadcaster Jason Dunstall remarked during the Fox Footy broadcast that he could not comprehend why Answerth would mock while his team was dominating the game.

“I fail to understand why he would do that. As a young player like Answerth, I do not see the reason to go down that path,” he stated.
