The man suspected of planting pipe bombs outside the Republican and Democratic National Committee headquarters on January 5, 2021, was ordered detained after his first federal court appearance. Brian Cole Jr., 30, was arrested in Virginia and faces charges of attempted malicious destruction by explosives and transporting an explosive device across state lines. The bombs, discovered on January 6, did not detonate but were deemed capable of causing serious harm. Cole’s next court date is set for December 15, as the FBI had long sought his arrest, offering a $500,000 reward for information leading to it.
