Brazil's top court to decide if ex-President Bolsonaro will face charges. What could happen next?

A panel of Brazil’s Supreme Court will open proceedings to decide whether former President Jair Bolsonaro and associates will stand trial for attempting a coup after losing the 2022 election. Bolsonaro faces five charges, including plotting to overturn the election results, poisoning his successor, and killing a Supreme Court Justice. If the indictment is accepted, Bolsonaro could face years in prison, in addition to already being banned from running for office until 2030.
