Brazilian ski racer Lucas Pinheiro Braathen clinched gold in the Olympic giant slalom, marking South America’s first medal at a Winter Games. He finished with a combined time of 2 minutes, 25 seconds, defeating defending champion Marco Odermatt by 0.58 seconds. The Norwegian-born athlete, who switched nationality to Brazil in 2024, has already achieved multiple milestones for his new country. Another Brazilian, Nicole Rocha Silveira, is also a medal contender in women’s skeleton.
