Brazil imposes $30 million fine on TikTok for child data privacy violations

Brazil’s data protection authority has fined ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, nearly $30 million for mishandling personal data of children and teenagers. The regulator found that TikTok collected and processed data from at least 8 million young users without proper legal basis or safeguards. The ruling mandates the company to delete illegally obtained data and improve its youth-protection measures, particularly concerning its “logged-out feed” feature that allows minors to bypass age verification.
