Biden spares federal death row inmates: Murderers targeted sailor, young girls, law enforcement

President Biden announced the commutation of 37 federal death row inmates’ sentences, including child murderers and rapists, sparking outrage. Among those spared were Jorge Avila-Torrez, who confessed to killing Navy Petty Officer Amanda Snell and two young girls in Illinois. Another inmate, Daryl Lawrence, convicted of killing Columbus Police Officer Bryan Hurst, also had his sentence commuted. Biden cited his opposition to the death penalty as the reason for the commutations.
