Republican Senator John Kennedy falsely accused President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris of being behind the British government’s decision to hand over the Chagos Islands to Mauritius, including a key military base. Kennedy described the agreement as a “crisis” and criticized both the UK government and Biden and Harris for supporting it to appease the United Nations, claiming they were giving away the important military base on Diego Garcia. He alleged that the agreement was “cell-deep stupid” and accused them of trying to curry favor with UN bureaucrats, despite the lack of a relationship between the Chagos Islands and Mauritius.
