In one of his final acts as president, Joe Biden commuted the life sentence of Indigenous activist Leonard Peltier, convicted in the 1975 killings of two FBI agents. Peltier, a member of the American Indian Movement, will transition to home confinement after being denied parole until 2026. Biden also issued pardons for thousands of nonviolent drug offenders, his son Hunter, and others, setting a record for presidential clemency.
