Bangladesh to Hold Elections in February

Bangladesh is set to hold its first parliamentary election on February 12, following a student-led uprising that ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The interim government, led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, faces challenges in restoring stability as Hasina’s party remains excluded from the ballot. The election will coincide with a referendum on the “July Charter,” aimed at political reforms. With nearly 128 million eligible voters, the race is expected to be dominated by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, which has distanced itself from Jamaat-e-Islami.
