Weather: Heavy rain, possible thunderstorms forecast for Northland, Auckland

Wild Weather Forecast for North Island

Severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall of 25 to 40 mm per hour are expected in Auckland and Northland this evening, prompting MetService to issue a severe thunderstorm watch from 5 PM until early tomorrow. Great Barrier Island and the Coromandel Peninsula are also under a watch starting at 9 PM. Meteorologist Samkelo Magwala indicated that the heavy rain will bring localized downpours and potential thunderstorms, marking the most significant weather activity across the North Island.
