A B.C. judge has granted an injunction to halt the medically assisted death of a 53-year-old Alberta woman, preventing Dr. Ellen Wiebe from assisting her within 30 days. The woman’s partner claims she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder but sought assistance in dying due to akathisia, a condition deemed treatable by medical professionals. Justice Simon R. Coval granted the injunction, citing concerns about the proper application of assistance in dying criteria in this case.
