Auto thefts in York Region drop 31% last year

York Regional Police credit the Auto Cargo Theft Unit and campaigns like Autoguard 2.0 for a 31% decrease in auto thefts in 2024. The ATCU’s efforts led to the recovery of over 245 stolen vehicles and disrupted criminal operations in York Region and the GTA. Major investigations like Project Boa and Project Viper dismantled international networks targeting high-demand vehicles, resulting in the recovery of stolen vehicles and seizure of illicit items.
