Australia’s internet watchdog supports age checks for adult websites

Australia’s eSafety Commissioner, Julie Inman Grant, has implemented mandatory age checks for users accessing adult content online, labeling the measure as “common sense.” This policy, effective immediately, aims to protect children from explicit materials and harmful content across various platforms, including pornography sites and gaming services. Non-compliance could result in fines of up to AU$49.5 million per breach. The initiative follows previous actions to restrict children’s access to specific social media apps and address AI-generated harmful content.
