Local media has identified an Australian-born woman who tragically died in a landslide at a village in Bali.

Indonesian media named the two victims as Australian-born Angelina Smith, 47, and her partner, Dutch national Luciano Kross, 50. Their bodies have been recovered from the debris.

Officials in Bali have stated that it seems the couple was asleep when the landslide occurred at Jatiluwih village early on Thursday morning after heavy rainfall.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is offering consular assistance to the family of the Australian woman.

A department spokeswoman expressed condolences to the family during this challenging time and mentioned privacy obligations prevent further comments.

The bodies have been transported to Denpasar.

Landslides, flooding, and fallen trees are common risks in Indonesia during heavy rains.

Jatiluwih, known for its beautiful rice terraces, is located north of Denpasar, the capital of Bali.
