Energy Minister Chris Bowen announced the release of millions of liters of diesel and petrol from Australia’s onshore fuel stockpile amid concerns over the Middle East crisis, assuring that supplies will not run out. The government is reducing minimum stock obligations for diesel from 2.7 billion liters to 2.2 billion and for petrol from 1 billion liters to 700 million. Bowen emphasized that this measure is intended to help fuel companies manage supply chains more effectively and ruled out the possibility of petrol rationing. He also condemned individuals hoarding fuel for resale at inflated prices, labeling such actions as un-Australian.
