Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke acknowledged that the stringent criteria for a preventative detention regime for former immigration detainees may result in none being detained, expressing a preference to deport them instead. His comments follow the recent charging of Lominja Friday Yokoju, a member of the NZYQ cohort released after a High Court ruling deemed indefinite detention unconstitutional.
