Australia grants asylum to two Iranian women’s football team members

Australia has granted humanitarian visas to two more members of the Iranian women’s football team, following the earlier asylum requests of five other players due to safety concerns after they did not sing the national anthem before a match. The Australian Minister for Home Affairs confirmed that the players were individually approached by officials and offered asylum without pressure. Iranian officials have since invited the remaining team members to return home, despite ongoing unrest in Iran.
