Arab and Islamic countries criticize Israeli rejection of Gaza plan

The foreign ministries of the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt issued a joint statement condemning Israel’s rejection of the Gaza Board of Peace’s 15-point roadmap, which aims to implement U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan. The statement claims that Israel’s actions are undermining efforts to conclude the conflict with Hamas and are obstructing Trump’s initiative for lasting peace. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had previously dismissed the plan, insisting that no withdrawal would occur until Hamas is fully disarmed. The foreign ministers emphasized that Hamas’s acceptance of the roadmap is crucial for disarmament, a step the group has historically resisted. They called on the U.S. to ensure Israel’s compliance with the proposed plan to secure safety for Gazans.

Why It Matters

This condemnation reflects a broader regional concern regarding the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, which has led to widespread humanitarian crises in Gaza. The rejection of diplomatic efforts by Israel raises questions about the feasibility of achieving a sustainable peace in the region. Historically, the Middle East has witnessed numerous failed peace initiatives, often exacerbated by continued violence and political disagreements. The situation is further complicated by the international community’s divided stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict, impacting the prospects for collaboration and resolution.
