Iran expert: Deeper strikes needed as Hormuz strikes push Iran from surrender

The United States is urged to intensify military strikes against Iran and target senior officials to address ongoing conflicts, according to Beni Sabti of the Institute for National Security Studies. In a recent interview, Sabti highlighted that heightened tensions in the Strait of Hormuz have not led Iran to yield, instead fostering a combative stance within its leadership despite domestic challenges. He noted that Iranian officials are increasingly motivated to pursue nuclear capabilities, viewing external pressures as a catalyst for further confrontation. Public discontent in Iran is growing due to economic hardships and power outages, leading to small protests that have been met with government force. Sabti also dismissed claims that former Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad acted as a Mossad agent, suggesting such a notion is unfounded and overlooks the complexities of Iranian political dynamics.

Why It Matters

The ongoing conflict with Iran is significant due to its strategic implications for regional security and global oil supply, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime passage. The U.S. has historically engaged in military actions to deter Iranian aggression and support allies in the region, leading to heightened tensions. Public unrest in Iran reflects deep-seated economic issues exacerbated by international sanctions and domestic policies, which could influence the regime’s stability. Understanding these dynamics is crucial for anticipating future developments in U.S.-Iran relations and broader Middle Eastern geopolitics.
