Hezbollah warns of retaliation against Tel Aviv and Haifa after IDF strikes

A senior Hezbollah official has issued a stark warning to Israel, stating that if the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) resume their attacks in Beirut, Hezbollah will retaliate by targeting central Israeli cities, including Haifa and Tel Aviv. In an interview with Al Araby, Mahmoud Kamati, the deputy head of Hezbollah’s political council, emphasized that it is unacceptable to halt fire towards northern Israel while Dahiyeh remains unscathed. He characterized the ongoing conflict as a full-scale campaign that is not going to cease, indicating that the retaliatory “equation” would involve Dahiyeh and Beirut on one side, and Haifa and Tel Aviv on the other. Additionally, the Houthi movement from Yemen has echoed similar threats against Israel, asserting that continued attacks would provoke a response, further escalating tensions in the region.

Why It Matters

This situation highlights the rising tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, a group backed by Iran that has previously engaged in conflict with Israel. The ongoing hostilities come in the context of past conflicts, particularly the 2006 Lebanon War, which left deep scars on both sides. The Houthis’ involvement adds another layer to the conflict, showcasing the interconnected nature of regional groups in opposing Israel. As military actions escalate, the potential for wider regional conflict grows, impacting not just Israel and Lebanon but also drawing in other actors in the Middle East, which could lead to significant geopolitical ramifications.
