Hezbollah included in ceasefire agreement, says Pakistan PM

Lebanon will be included in a new ceasefire agreement involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, as announced by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. In a post on X/Twitter, he stated that the ceasefire is effective immediately and covers all areas, including Lebanon. This announcement follows speculation that Hezbollah would be part of the agreement, as reported by Lebanon’s MTV news channel. Prior to the ceasefire’s announcement, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) had issued evacuation warnings to residents in southern Lebanon, particularly in Tyre and Shabriha, while preparing for military strikes against Hezbollah. IDF operations had intensified in the region, with the 98th Commando Division joining ground operations and other divisions already active in southern Lebanon.

Why It Matters

This ceasefire agreement is significant as it reflects ongoing tensions in the region, particularly involving Hezbollah, an Iranian-backed militant group. The IDF’s recent military activities in southern Lebanon underscore the volatile situation, as past conflicts have led to significant civilian displacement and casualties. The inclusion of Lebanon in this ceasefire aligns with broader international efforts to stabilize the region and reduce the risk of further escalation. Historically, Lebanon has been a focal point in the Israeli-Iranian conflict, with Hezbollah playing a crucial role in regional dynamics, which can influence diplomatic relations and security in the Middle East.
