Iran’s conflict extends to Jordan as missiles and debris strike cities

King Abdullah was attending Eid prayers in Aqaba when a missile fragment landed in Wadi Saqra, central Amman, prompting swift action from security and emergency teams to secure the area. Officials advised residents to avoid the site and any suspicious debris, which is believed to be linked to ongoing Iranian missile activities. On the same morning, Iran launched ballistic missiles targeting central Israel and Jerusalem, further involving Jordan in the regional conflict. The Jordanian military reported that over three weeks, Iran fired 240 missiles and drones at Jordan, with 222 intercepted; however, 18 managed to get through. The missile strikes have resulted in injuries and significant security challenges for Jordan, which has maintained a position of neutrality in the conflict.

Why It Matters

The conflict has escalated tensions in the region, with Jordan facing direct security threats as missile debris falls within its borders. Historically, Jordan has sought to remain uninvolved in regional conflicts, but the current situation is testing its defense capabilities and alliances. The Jordanian military has recorded numerous incidents of debris landing in populated areas, illustrating the spillover effects of the ongoing war. This situation highlights the complexities of regional security dynamics and the potential for further escalations involving neighboring countries and external powers.
