Arrested Workers’ Status Unclear After Protests
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Hundreds of striking workers in Asaluyeh, Iran’s key gas hub, have been detained by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in inhumane conditions, with communication to their families severed for weeks. Workers began protests demanding higher wages and better benefits before nationwide demonstrations, but the IRGC responded with mass arrests to suppress dissent. Despite these efforts, protests have spread, raising concerns about labor conditions and the treatment of detainees. The Council for Organizing Oil Contract Workers’ Protests has condemned the IRGC’s actions and called for the release of detained labor activists.
