Yemen appoints new prime minister after Ahmed bin Mubarak resigns

Yemen has appointed Salem Saleh Bin Braikas as prime minister following the resignation of Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, who faced difficulties and power clashes with the presidential council. Mubarak, who became premier in February 2024 after his role as foreign minister, previously gained prominence after being kidnapped by Houthi militiamen in 2015. Meanwhile, the US has intensified airstrikes against Houthi military targets to deter threats to commercial shipping in the Red Sea, marking significant military operations in the region amid Yemen’s ongoing civil war since 2014.
