Saudi Arabia’s Stance on US-Iran Nuclear Talks

Saudi Arabia anticipates that any new agreement between the United States and Iran will impose stricter constraints on Tehran than the previous nuclear agreement, according to a source in the Saudi royal family. As American and Iranian negotiators convene in Oman to discuss a deal that would require Iran to relinquish nuclear weapons development and dismantle its facilities, Saudi expectations include increased stability and a more substantive agreement than the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which was abandoned by Trump in 2018.
