Government calls in military experts as month-long refuse workers’ strike brings warnings of public health emergency
Military planners have been recruited to manage the escalating rubbish crisis in Birmingham, caused by a month-long strike by refuse workers which started on March 11 over pay disputes. The strike has resulted in thousands of tonnes of uncollected waste, leading to serious public health warnings. Authorities are concerned about the potential health hazards posed by the accumulating garbage on city streets.
