BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 6. Armenia has officially contacted Russia regarding the presence of Russian border guards at Zvartnots airport in the capital, Armenian Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan informed reporters, Trend reports.

“The government’s stance is that Armenian border guards should be responsible for airport security. Armenia has the capability to handle this,” he stated.

On the other hand, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova previously stated that Moscow views the statements about removing Russian border guards from Zvartnots airport as another instance of Armenia’s hostile behavior.

“We see this as another display of unfriendly conduct from Yerevan. We have not received any requests from Armenian authorities regarding this matter. The situation at Zvartnots airport seems to have stemmed from previous rumors involving Russian Dmitry Setrakov. I can assure you that no unlawful actions were taken by Russian officials: we always adhere to the laws of sovereign nations,” she explained.
