Apple Hide My Email vulnerability exposes real addresses in minutes

A vulnerability in Apple’s Hide My Email feature has been uncovered, potentially exposing users’ personal email addresses. This tool, designed to create disposable @icloud.com addresses for privacy, has been reported by researchers at EasyOptOuts to contain flaws that allow the real email addresses behind the disposable ones to be uncovered. The first flaw was reported to Apple in June 2025, and while Apple acknowledged the issue, subsequent tests revealed that the vulnerability still existed. Despite claims of a fix, EasyOptOuts conducted tests indicating that all Hide My Email addresses were exploitable. The implications of this flaw are significant, as personal email addresses can be linked to extensive personal data, making them targets for cybercriminals.

Why It Matters

The significance of this story lies in the relationship between email addresses and personal data security. Since the introduction of Hide My Email in 2019, users have relied on this feature to protect their identities when interacting with third-party services. However, exposed email addresses can lead to data breaches, as hackers can cross-reference these with previously leaked information to build detailed profiles of individuals. This highlights a growing concern in digital privacy, where the integrity of personal data is continuously at risk due to technological vulnerabilities. Such incidents underscore the need for robust security measures in digital identity tools to ensure user confidentiality.
