Apple has announced changes to iOS in Japan to comply with the Mobile Software Competition Act, introducing alternative app stores and payment options, effective immediately. The new safeguards, termed Notarization, include security reviews for third-party marketplaces, although Apple emphasizes that its App Store remains the safest option. Developers can now use non-Apple payment processors, but Apple warns of limited customer support and refund options for such transactions. Additionally, users will see new screens for selecting default browsers and search engines, following similar updates from Google for Android.
