A former U.S. Capitol police officer’s conviction was upheld by a federal appeals court for trying to help a Virginia fisherman avoid charges related to the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol. The officer attempted to assist the fisherman who participated in the mob’s attack that his law-enforcement colleagues defended against. The court affirmed the officer’s guilt in obstructing justice and supporting criminal behavior during the violent events at the Capitol.
