Anthony Kim made a return to professional golf at LIV Golf Jeddah after a 12-year break from the sport. Despite lingering questions about his absence, Kim shed some light on his hiatus in an interview with David Feherty on the LIV Golf Plus app.
In the interview, Kim opened up about his struggles, admitting to dark and lonely moments where he needed to find his purpose. He mentioned feeling alone despite being surrounded by people and the necessity to get his mind straight.
Prior to LIV Golf Jeddah, Kim’s last professional competition was in 2012 at the Wells Fargo Championship, where he withdrew due to Achilles surgery. During his time away from golf, Kim watched reality TV, indulged in food, and cared for his pets.
Despite battling injuries throughout his career, Kim underwent multiple surgeries, including shoulder, hand, and spinal fusion procedures. He also revealed struggles with addiction and deceitful individuals who took advantage of him.
In a surprising revelation, Kim confessed that he had not touched a golf club until three months before his return to professional golf. Despite finishing last at Jeddah, Kim showed improvement in subsequent tournaments.
While Kim kept many details about his absence private, he hinted at an upcoming documentary that will provide more insight into his life. He emphasized the importance of enjoying every moment and supporting his family in his comeback to the sport.
