Amtrak is set to launch a new fleet of passenger trains, the Airo, this summer, replacing rail cars that have been in service for nearly 50 years. This $8 billion order includes 83 trains built by Siemens, marking the largest fleet replacement since Amtrak’s inception in 1971. The Airo trains feature modern amenities like larger windows, power outlets, and enhanced accessibility options, with a capacity of up to 300 passengers. Initial service will start on the Amtrak Cascades route, with further expansion planned for East Coast lines.
