Zoox, Amazon’s autonomous vehicle division, has received U.S. approval for limited commercial deployment of its steering-wheel-free robotaxis, marking a significant advancement in the autonomous transportation sector. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has allowed Zoox to charge for rides after securing local permissions and granted an exemption from federal rules requiring human controls. Zoox plans to roll out up to 2,500 vehicles in the next two years, although safety concerns remain among critics regarding the absence of traditional vehicle controls.
