A 37-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder of Sinovuyo Dyokwe, a Democratic Alliance (DA) ward candidate in Dunoon, Cape Town. Dyokwe, 34, was shot multiple times on June 20 after allegedly refusing to pay extortion fees demanded by a man linked to a housing relocation project. Just after helping residents register to vote, she was fatally attacked. Following her murder, the DA offered a R50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. The suspect, who was evading capture, was apprehended during a police operation that also seized evidence including seven cellphones and the vehicle used in the crime. He is expected to face charges of murder and extortion in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court.
