Aubrey Cottle, also known as “Kirtaner,” an alleged co-founder of the hacker group Anonymous, has been arrested for hacking into the Texas Republican Party’s web server in 2021 and stealing sensitive data. Cottle faces charges in both the U.S. and Canada for the breach and is linked to a separate data breach of a Christian crowdfunding site. The FBI Austin Cyber Task Force is investigating the case, and Cottle could face up to five years in prison if convicted.
