All schools nationwide are now eligible to apply for free solar panels through the “Solar for Schools Programme,” which aims to reduce electricity costs and carbon emissions. The initiative, led by Minister for Education Helen McEntee and Minister for Environment, Climate and Communications Darragh O’Brien, has already seen over 1,040 installations completed, with a potential annual savings of €1,200-1,600 per school. Schools must apply by March 7th through the new online platform School Hub, with up to 24 megawatts of renewable energy provision expected to be installed across 4,000 schools, resulting in savings of €5.5 million per year.
