During his Closing The Gap address, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese condemned the “racism and hatred” linked to a bomb scare at the Perth Invasion Day rally, where a man was charged with engaging in a terrorist act. He stressed the need for urgent action on issues like suicide, Indigenous deaths in custody, and economic barriers while announcing a $144 million investment in Indigenous health services. Albanese’s remarks, which echo a previous apology by Kevin Rudd, highlighted ongoing disparities as only four of 19 targets are on track. Opposition leader Sussan Ley also addressed the need for a collective commitment to improve health, education, and safety for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians.
