Fly fishing is thriving on the Spokane River with good action reported on dry-dropper rigs, while the North Fork Coeur d’Alene and St. Joe Rivers also offer excellent fishing opportunities with a variety of bug hatches. Sprague Lake features sizable rainbow trout and bass, and multiple lakes in the W.T. Wooten Wildlife Area are productive, though Rainbow Lake will temporarily close for treatment against algae. Kokanee fishing is popular in several lakes, and the Columbia River sockeye forecast shows a good return as the fishery opens mid-June.
