Ahmaud Arbery’s killers avoided arrest at first. Now an ex-prosecutor faces trial for misconduct

In Brunswick, Georgia, former district attorney Jackie Johnson is facing trial for allegedly interfering with the investigation into the killing of Ahmaud Arbery. Arbery, a Black man, was pursued and shot by three white men in February 2020. Johnson, who had a close relationship with one of the men involved, is accused of showing favoritism and hindering police from arresting the suspects. The case sparked national outrage and led to murder and hate crime convictions for the men responsible. Jury selection for Johnson’s trial is set to begin in Brunswick.
