Africa: UK-Funded Unitaid Launches Initiative to Boost Medical Oxygen Access in Sub-Saharan Africa

Unitaid, funded by the UK government, is investing $22 million in Africa’s first regional liquid oxygen manufacturing program to improve access to medical oxygen in East and Southern Africa, with facilities in Kenya and Tanzania. This initiative aims to increase oxygen production by 300%, reduce prices by 27%, treat more patients, and enhance healthcare outcomes. The program, supported by partners like CHAI and PATH, has the potential to save 154,000 lives in Kenya and Tanzania, strengthen health security, and serve as a model for expanding oxygen access across Africa.
