Cameroonian artist Malam creates giant head-shaped sculptures made from discarded toys and household items as a critique of society’s consumerism and environmental disregard. His pieces, titled ‘Emergency Therapy’, incorporate screens to provoke self-awareness. At the Also Known as Africa art fair in Paris, Malam’s works challenge viewers to reconsider their relationship with themselves and the planet, emphasizing universal messages over national boundaries. AKAA founder Victoria Mann has worked to promote contemporary African art, showcasing 41 exhibitors from 29 countries at the latest event.
