African and Asian football have pledged their support for Gianni Infantino to run for a fourth term as FIFA President in 2027. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) both announced their backing for Infantino ahead of the FIFA Congress in Vancouver. With the support of these two regional confederations, Infantino has a significant advantage in the presidential election, as they hold a total of 101 votes out of 211. Infantino has already secured support from South American football’s ruling body CONMEBOL, adding another 10 votes to his tally.

Why It Matters

Gianni Infantino’s potential re-election as FIFA President in 2027 has garnered strong support from key regional confederations, giving him a solid foundation for a successful campaign. With backing from Africa, Asia, and South America, Infantino is in a strong position to continue leading world football. This support highlights the confidence in Infantino’s leadership and vision for the future of FIFA, as well as the importance of regional alliances in the global football landscape.
