AFL umpire banned for dressing as Osama bin Laden at end of season event

The AFL has suspended umpire Leigh Haussen for dressing up as Osama bin Laden at an end of season event, where the theme was characters from the 2000s. Haussen, who has umpired 147 AFL games, admitted to making an error in judgement and will be banned from participating in round one of the 2025 AFL season. AFL Head of Umpiring Stephen McBurney stated that Haussen understands the inappropriate nature of his costume and will be supported in his return to umpiring after the suspension.
